for a creative and visionary theatre project of excellence for young people
The Childrens Theatre Foundation of America believes that our future success, resiliency, and sustainability relies on placing equity at the center of every aspect of what we do. We define equity as a collaborative, continual process to ensure fair access to all.
The Founders Project Fulfillment Grant Committee is seeking a ground‐breaking project by a not‐for‐profit theatre that comes to a culmination ready to be shared with the public through production, public display, or publication.
This creative project will advance the field of theatre for young audiences and serve as a model of culturally responsive theatre for youth.

Who may apply: A 501c3 IRS certified not-for-profit theatre in the United States, established for at least five consecutive years, with a public record of artistic quality in creating work for young audiences, a demonstrated commitment to diversity in leadership and an operating budget of over $1,000,000.

- RTS Application STEP 1 opens Friday, August 21, 2026
- RTS Application closes at 11:59 PM ET on Monday, September 28, 2026
- RTS applicants will be reviewed by the CTFA Founders Grants Committee and select Finalists will be chosen to proceed to STEP 2.
- All Applicants will be contacted by Wednesday, October 21 with an RTS Application status update.
- STEP 2 Finalists will be provided with the final Founders Project Fulfillment Grant Applicant Form.
-Final applications will be due on or before Monday, November 16.
-All Finalists will be contacted by Friday, December 11 with a final application status update.
- The funding time frame for 2026 Founders Project Fulfillment Grant begins no earlier than December 16, 2026 and must be completed by December 15, 2027
